5 ways to prepare for wildfire season

BC residents are no stranger to wildfires. In fact, the 2020 wildfire season reported 14,536 hectares burned and $193.7 billion in damages. (British Columbia).

Did you know?

In some cases, being within an 80km radius of a wildfire can disqualify you from obtaining insurance coverage or adding coverage to an existing policy.

5 ways to be fire smart this summer

  • Make sure you have coverage – talk to an advisor.
    Don’t assume you’re covered.
  • Keep and Inventory of what you own
In the event of a loss due to a wildfire, having a well organized inventory list can assist in the claims process.
  • Make sure you know who to call in the event of a claim
Have a plan in place in the event of an emergency, including contact numbers and a way to access those numbers. Keep a copy of your insurance policy in your emergency grab and go bag.
  • Have your chimney inspected
Regular chimney inspections can help avoid unwanted surprises as build up and debris can be a potential fire risk.
  • Clean up dry and dead debris from your property
The less fuel around your home for wildfires the better!
