Walking the Path Together: Honouring Truth and Reconciliation Day 2024

At SeaFirst Insurance, we believe in the power of community, education, and the importance of acknowledging our shared history. As we approach Truth and Reconciliation Day on September 30, we pause to reflect on the significance of this day and its place in our ongoing journey toward healing and understanding.

Truth and Reconciliation Day, also known as Orange Shirt Day, was established to honor the survivors of residential schools, their families, and the countless children who never returned home. It’s a day to remember the painful history and lasting impacts of these institutions on Indigenous communities across Canada, while also fostering a commitment to building a better, more inclusive future.

This year, as we reflect on the 94 Calls to Action outlined by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, we recognize that reconciliation is not a single day event but an ongoing responsibility.

As we honor this important day, we encourage everyone to take the time to listen, learn, and reflect. Here are a few ways we can all contribute to the path of reconciliation:

  • Wear Orange: Wearing an orange shirt on September 30 symbolizes recognition of the harms caused by the residential school system and supports healing for survivors.
  • Learn More: Engage with resources, books, and films that educate on Indigenous histories and the legacy of residential schools. Awareness is a crucial step in understanding and reconciliation.
  • Support Indigenous Communities: Consider supporting Indigenous-led organizations, artists, and businesses, or donate to causes that work toward reconciliation and community healing.

We encourage everyone to commit to being part of the solution— working to ensure that the painful history is not forgotten, and that we continue moving forward in the spirit of truth, healing, and unity. On September 30, let us come together in recognition of the importance of Truth and Reconciliation Day and commit to creating a future built on respect and understanding.

Let’s walk this path together.
